Overview Curriculum & Progression Global Goals Gallery Useful Links

The History progression documents have been clearly structured to ensure that incremental, progressive steps are evident over time.  Not only will these enable pupils to embed and use the end of Key Stage Attainment Targets of the National Curriculum but also to extend the children’s learning experiences far beyond these assessment statements. The learning steps are sequenced in a spiral curriculum through each year group, with opportunities to recap and embed previous learning. This ensures that knowledge is retained and built upon.  There are three strands:

  1. Historical knowledge
  2. Chronology
  3. Evidence and sources

The specific (Tier 3) vocabulary linked to History is built into the progression document; pupils are therefore able to understand this subject specific language within context and apply it beyond the subject where appropriate.  History has many cross curricular links; using performance skills and scientific enquiry to consolidate and extend their learning experience.  Even when taught through a topic, there is a distinct History thread – pupils will know which subject they are learning about.
